Customer Stories: Denise Duplinski, CPA
ProAdvisor Sells Retail Clients on QuickBooks® Merchant Service to be More Efficient While Growing Own Practice
Ask Denise Duplinski what she likes most about her job, and she'll tell you it's getting out in the field and making a positive difference in the way her clients' businesses operate. Showing them better ways to accomplish tasks, getting their QuickBooks software set up and running properly, and solving accounting problems brings Denise a lot of job satisfaction, she says, especially because her clients are so appreciative.

And what Denise appreciates is how, by recommending QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service to her retail clients, she has been able to stay "crazy busy" and grow her accounting practice in the southwestern portion of Ohio—a region that hasn't shared in the nation's buoyant economy. "The economy isn't the best out here," she says. "We've got a big U.S. automaker and its largest parts supplier, both of whom are having problems. There's a large steel plant that's been idled by a strike, and a major Air Force base that's at risk of closing. People aren't feeling all that confident right now. They're not starting a lot of new businesses at the moment."
That's not slowing Denise down one bit, however. Between her QuickBooks software, QuickBooks Point of Sale software and hardware, and QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service consulting, installations and training she always seems to be busy. So busy, in fact, that she and her partner have three additional staff members to help do all the bookkeeping, bank account, payroll and data entry work associated with new QuickBooks set ups.
"Having QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service available for retail clients has been a really nice add-on because we do so much Point of Sale business," she says. "When you're talking Point of Sale, you're talking to retailers who have a big need for credit and PIN debit card processing. QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service gives us additional consulting, installation and training opportunities, which adds more revenue to our cash flow. It's been great!"
And is QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service an easy sell? For this 26-year accounting veteran and Certified ProAdvisor®, it's a resounding "yes!" According to Denise, her retail clients fall into two camps: either they have no merchant service at all, or they have an established relationship with their bank.
For newcomers, who often have no accounting system and no idea what a merchant service is, Denise demonstrates how effortlessly they can enter a credit card or PIN debit card sale into QuickBooks Point of Sale, quickly process that transaction through QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service*, and have the entire event flow automatically into their QuickBooks software—saving them countless hours of tedious bookkeeping work and reconciliation while improving accuracy. "I don't think the installation could be made any easier, and most of my clients pick it up pretty quick. I've never had anyone say 'no' after showing them how the smoothly the system works," Denise states.
For those established retailers who are either using QuickBooks or switching over, but still want to continue processing credit cards through their bank or other merchant service using a card swipe terminal, Denise asks them why—especially they have to re-enter that information into the QuickBooks system? "I tell them, 'Save yourself some time and a couple of steps, key it [the transaction] into QuickBooks or swipe the card and it's already done,'" she says. "Why enter something twice?" Even the cost of QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service is a great selling point, Denise adds. Most people she talks to assume it would be more costly, and that they're getting a great deal from their bank—until they really take a look at what their bank is charging them. That's when QuickBooks Point of Sale Merchant Service shines.
And what about her own practice
And while convenience is one attraction, some of Denise's clients like to pay with their credit cards in order to get air miles or other rewards. QuickBooks Merchant Service for PCs even helps with the rare slow paying client because it gives them an attractive means to take care of their bill.
"I like everything about QuickBooks Merchant Service," Denise says. "It's fast and easy to set up, competitively priced and it decreases your workload. You don't have to double-enter information. Any time you don't have to touch a keyboard twice, I think it's wonderful."
